Rémi Garde was quick to praise Joleon Lescott's performance in a "special game" for the defender at old club West Brom.
Lescott was a tower of strength at the back in the heart of the defence alongside Jores Okore.
He was booed by fans of former side Albion but it only seemed to inspire him to a top performance in claret and blue.
Garde was very happy with his display and also hailed his qualities in the dressing room too.
He said: "Joleon is a very experienced player.
"I don't think he is bothered or annoyed by the fans who booed him.
"He played a very good game. I know it was special for him because he played here before.
"He can be a leader - at the moment he is one.
"We discovered each other - and the way we wanted to work. To be fair we had discussions.
"I think he is enjoying the football we are playing and he is enjoying the way we are training also. I am very happy about that."
