Leandro Bacuna has backed the move of Micah Richards to right-back - although he stressed the skipper has been the standout at centre-back too.
Richards switched to full-back in the absence of Alan Hutton and did well for the 83 minutes he was on the pitch at Adams Park as Villa drew 1-1 with Wycombe.
Bacuna, who has played there himself, was impressed with the performance of Richards as he defended strongly, bombed forward - and scored our goal on the afternoon.
But Bacuna was also quick to praise the captain's performances in the heart of the defence too, since joining on a free transfer from Man City in the summer.
He said: "Micah has history playing at right-back.
"He was in that position for Man City when they won the Premier League title and he's played there for England too - so there's proof of how good he is there.
"Playing there is nothing new for him. He can play there, no problem.
"He has all the attributes to play there - he is quick, strong, likes to get forward but also defends strongly too.
"It's vital in modern-day football that your full-backs bomb forward, get up field and create chances for the team.
"Micah can definitely do that - and he scored too.
"He came here as a centre-half in the summer and I think he's done a very good job there for us too in a difficult season for the club.
"He's definitely been one of our best players this season - and a very good captain too. I have been very impressed with him all season."
