Returning defender Aly Cissokho says the players will keep fighting as Villa battle to climb the table.
Villa are bottom of the Barclays Premier League table and 11 points from top-flight safety following the 3-1 loss to Sunderland at the weekend.
Cissokho hasn't played for the club all season but returned for the defeat at the Stadium of Light.
The left-back discussed the claret and blue situation with reporters on the final whistle and was defiant, despite the low placing in the top-flight.
He said: "The situation is plain to see. We are at the bottom.
"It does not look good. This is not easy for any of us. Everybody is very sad.
"We care. We lost a game we badly wanted to do well in.
"We know what everyone thinks. That Villa are now down.
"But while we have a chance, we have to fight.
"We have to be professional. Fight for the club. Fight for the fans. Fight as professionals.
"Of course, too, we have our own pride.
"That means we will continue to give everything, however it looks."
