Paul Lambert hailed his side as excellent after they impressed in a 2-0 win at FC Dallas.
Lambert was delighted with the way his team - different first half and second half sides - battled the heat to ensure a comfortable victory.
Andreas Weimann hit home at the end of the first half and Charles N'Zogbia doubled the scoreline just after the break at the Toyota Stadium.
Lambert felt his team thoroughly deserved the victory.
He said: "It was a really tough game for us.
"We're not long started back for pre-season. Obviously Dallas have played a lot of league games. So it was difficult.
"One of the big factors in their favour was the heat. We're certainly not used to that - the conditions were really, really tough.
"I have never experienced heat like this. It is really tough, even when you're walking around. It's pretty exhausting at times.
"But I was delighted with the two teams I put out. I thought we dominated the second half. But it was a hard, hard game overall.
"The first half was tough because the heat was greater in that period. But the lads were resolute.
"We were strong defensively and never really got hurt.
"Andi scored a very good goal. Darren did great for it. The goalkeeper might have saved it - should have saved it.
"But I said to Andi afterwards that it doesn't matter how they go in, it's about them going in.
"The second was a top-class finish. I thought the goal from Charles was first-class. It was a well-taken goal."
Lambert insists that fitness is still at the forefront of his mind although he accepts that winning is a good habit to get into.
He added: "I'm really delighted. I have been since they have come back. They have come back in really good shape.
"They did well at Mansfield and again here against a team who have played several games in their own division. All in all, very good.
"You have to get the fitness first and foremost - for that first game. If you can get everyone through these remaining matches, that's the main thing.
"The biggest achievement is getting everyone fit for Stoke. Results aren't the be-all-and-end-all in pre-season, they never have been.
"It's about getting your strongest team ready for the first day of the season. I'd like to get through these games with everyone fit. But it is a nice feeling to win."
