Brad Guzan welcomed the arrival of Joe Cole as he pointed to the midfielder's "experience and talent."
Guzan thinks those top traits will serve the claret and blues well for the 2014-15 campaign.
Villa's No.1 believes Cole's trophy-laden past will inspire the players.
And he thinks the former Chelsea star's tricks and flicks can help the team's forward flair.
Cole will be at Bodymoor Heath for training today as the players return for pre-season preparations.
Guzan said: "I am really excited by Joe's arrival.
"Everyone knows his history. He's a supremely experienced player. His resume speaks for itself.
"To have Joe come into the dressing room will only be beneficial for all of us.
"He brings flair to the team. His ability is there for all to see. He will be a big player for us.
"His experience will help the younger guys coming through. That will be important. Whenever you can add talent and experience to a team, I believe that's important.
"His ability to open up defences will be huge. We can get behind defenders with Christian, Andi, Libor and Gabby. Now to be able to link the midfielders and forwards, it will be great.
"The gaffer has spoken before of wanting a No.10 and Joe undoubtedly has the ability to play that vital penetrating pass.
"He can open defences up. Everyone knows that. He will definitely ask questions with the opposition."
