Thomas Hitzlsperger thinks the "huge experience" of Philippe Senderos will be big for Villa as the capable centre-half looks to make a big impact in claret and blue.
Paul Lambert snapped up Swiss Senderos on a free transfer.
Hitzlsperger believes the World Cup defender - currently out in Brazil with Switzerland - is a good buy because of his quality but, more importantly, his Premier League maturity.
He said: "I have played against Philippe a couple of times when we were with our respective national teams.
"He's a strong and very capable defender.
"He's played with some big clubs too and been to three World Cups with Switzerland.
"He's a good player. He has big experience. That's the emphasis for Paul Lambert this coming season and Philippe has it in abundance.
"Watching the Holland v Spain game, Villa clearly have a very good player at the back already - Ron Vlaar. I thought he was really excellent. He had a great game.
"But Philippe's arrival will be good for the squad and I am sure he will prove his worth in the coming months alongside Jores Okore, Nathan Baker and Ciaran Clark as they all battle to get into the team.
"He is physically very strong, reads the game well and has been in and around the Premier League for many years. He knows what it's all about, which will be good for the dressing room.
"I believe he will be a good influence. He looks like he's a leader and someone who will do a lot of talking to the rest of the back four."
Make sure you snap up the classy new home kit.
