Paul Lambert revealed he couldn't risk either Gabby Agbonlahor or Marc Albrighton for the Man City clash - but he is hopeful of seeing the pair back for the final day match with Tottenham on Sunday.
Agbonlahor had to be withdrawn in the 3-1 win over Hull with a knee problem while Albrighton injured his groin in the clash with the Tigers too.
Lambert decided to leave the pair out for the Etihad Stadium encounter, rather than risk more long-term damage.
It was a blow as Albrighton has been one of the claret and blue stars of the past few weeks while Agbonlahor offers big options up front with his pace and grace.
Lambert hopes both key men will recover in time for the match at White Hart Lane this weekend.
He said: "Hopefully Gabby and Marc will be okay for Sunday.
"The two of them got knocks on Saturday. So we couldn't risk them at Man City.
"We'll go to Tottenham to try and win.
"Hopefully both lads will be okay. We'll see what happens.
"Marc has just got a little groin problem at the minute.
"It's not too bad. But it was enough to keep him out.
"And Gabby has hurt his knee."
In other news, this final day game has been selected for live coverage from Sky Sports. The kick-off remains as 3pm.
