It couldn't have been a more perfect day for Villa's network of Lions Clubs.

Members from all over the world congregated in B6 to watch Villa defeat Hull 3-1 and guarantee the team's safety in the Barclays Premier League for another season.

It was tension-filled before the big game but the likes of California's Rick Leong, Chicaco's Simon Leach and Denmark's Michael Bundgaard watched on as the claret and blues saw it through, courtesy of goals from Andi Weimann and Ashley Westwood.

As if that wasn't enough of a pick-me-up for their trip to Birmingham, the final whistle also bought an element of tension too.

That was due to the UK Lions v Overseas Lions match which occurred moments after the first team's lap of honour.

The dreams of many a loyal supporter was realised as chairmen from groups across the globe got the chance to play on the hallowed turf. UK Lions won the competitive match 10-8, with Lee Hendrie turning out for the home nations - but it was a thrill for everyone who took part.

Then it was on to the evening reception in the 1874 Suite where the annual prizes were handed out by legend Brian Little.

The Best UK Club was won by Bromsgrove for the second year running while the Best Overseas Club was Norway.

The Most Improved went to Sussex Lions while Clubman of the Year was gratefully received by Paul McCusker of Northern Ireland Lions.

The camaraderie was tremendous as the claret and blue friends from places like Italy, Sweden, Belgium and Bulgaria all talked of a truly memorable day.
