Villa finished the Barclays U21 Premier League campaign with a defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
An early strike from captain Marcos Lopes and a late Thierry Ambrose effort earned the victory for City, who secured their place in the end-of-season play-offs.
The hosts made a strong start with George Glendon flashing a shot wide of the target after four minutes.
Then on 12 minutes Lopes broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish using the outside of his foot after being played through on goal.
Villa's best opportunity of the first half came when forward Jerell Sellars forced Ian Lawlor into a great save from his rasping free-kick.
City took control again at the start of the second period and three minutes after the restart Craig Hill did well to tip away Angelino's cheeky chip.
Jordy Hiwula should have made it 2-0 on 62 minutes but failed to make contact with Sinan Bytyqi's corner.
In stoppage time, City rubberstamped their victory when Ambrose nipped in to score.
The result means Villa will finish in 13th or 14th spot depending on the outcome of Tottenham's clash against Reading later in the day.
