Brad Guzan has backed lionheart leader Ron Vlaar to deliver another rock solid display at Swansea this weekend.
Guzan reckons the performance of Vlaar in Saturday's goalless draw against Southampton epitomised the level of commitment and desire required by Villa as they look to make it across the top-flight safety threshold.
And the American goalkeeper says skipper Vlaar has developed into a major force during his second season at the club.
"Ron has been a really big force," Guzan told AVTV.
"He is an important player and he is our captain.
"In that game against Southampton he stepped up for us because we needed a strong leader and a strong performance.
"He led by example and that is what we need throughout the team from here on in."
Guzan felt Vlaar's bravery and passion against the Saints rubbed off on the rest of the back four.
He hopes the clean sheet is a sign of things to come in the final stretch of the campaign.
"They were fantastic in terms of blocking shots," added Guzan.
"In the first couple of minutes Nathan had a good block on Rickie Lambert as a cross came in.
"It is plays like that which give you a chance to win games.
"When you've got that commitment from guys to throw their bodies on the line it makes my job easier and it hopefully gives the team an opportunity to go and get a result."
