Ryan Bertand wants Villa to finish the season with a flourish - and he insists defensive solidity is the key.
Bertrand says it is imperative the claret and blues rediscover their form defensively in order to make a strong finish to the campaign.
Paul Lambert's backline have made great strides this term, keeping eight clean sheets in the Barclays Premier League.
But the last two matches against Stoke and Manchester United have seen Villa concede a combined eight goals.
"It is never good to concede eight goals in two goals - it should never happen," said on-loan full-back Bertrand.
"But we are just focusing on winning the next few games.
"We realise as a defence that if we can keep things tight then it will go a long way to us getting the points that we need."
Bertrand admits Villa were disappointed to let their momentum slip following back-to-back victories over Norwich and Chelsea.
But the 24-year-old knows a win over Fulham should put any doubts over their top-flight status to bed.
"Games against big teams are bonus games and if you win like we did against Chelsea you have to then make them count by going on to win against the teams around you," he added.
"I think it happens to a lot of teams - you go out there and play fantastic against the big teams but you might come unstuck against a team that is around your position the following week.
"But it does make those bonus games really count if you can follow it up with a win."
