Man City U18s 3-3 Villa U18s: Late strike denies youngsters

A last-gasp volley from Manchester City's Brandon Barker denied Villa a second straight Barclays U18 Premier League victory.

Tony McAndrew's team twice came from behind in the encounter at City's Platt Lane training headquarters, with Jerell Sellars and Harry McKirdy cancelling out early efforts from Barker and Thierry Ambrose.

The young claret and blues side appeared on course for maximum points when Sellars added his second but Barker struck in the last minute as City snatched a draw.

The first period of this entertaining league game proved to be a goalfest.

With just five minutes played, the hosts launched a quick counter-attack and Ambrose coolly finished.

But Villa soon hit back when Sellars converted a near post cross to equalise on 10 minutes.

Moments later, this end-to-end encounter took another twist as Barker fired past Villa keeper Craig Hill to restore City's lead.

On 19 minutes, the claret and blues level once again through Harry McKirdy's spectacular overhead kick.

And Sellars produced another well-taken strike six minutes before the break to put Villa ahead.

Villa continued to repel City's attacks during the second half until Barker powered home a volley in the last minute.

VILLA: Hill, Leggett, Nehemie, R Strain, Daire, Toner, O'Brien, McKirdy, T Strain, Abdo, Sellars. Subs: Zazrivec, Bannister, Lyons-Foster, Anthony, Lewis.
