FT: Villa 1-4 Stoke [Benteke 5; Odemwingie 22; Crouch 26; NZonzi 42; Cameron 90]

Villa face a big task in the second half if they are to overturn this 3-1 deficit.

Paul Lambert's team appeared to have carried on where they left off against Chelsea as Christian Benteke gave them an early lead.

The Belgian hotshot was on hand to fire home a left-foot shot with five minutes on the clock after Fabian Delph brilliantly turned away from Geoff Cameron and produced a clever cutback.

But the early strike seemed to galvanise the Potters, who delivered a triple blow.

Peter Odemwingie reacted quickest to meet Peter Crouch's knockdown before barging through the Villa defence to score.

Former Villan Crouch was then well placed to sidefoot home a left-wing cross from Erik Pieters.

Then three minutes before the break Steven Nzonzi slotted a low effort across Guzan from the edge of the area.
