FT: Newcastle 1-0 Villa [Remy 90]

Half-time report

It was a closely-fought first half at St James' Park with both teams having encouraging spells.

Brad Guzan was called into action twice in the early stages. Firstly, he held Loic Remy's low drive.

Then the American keeper spilled a shot from Papiss Cisse but fortunately Nathan Baker was on hand to clear.

But Villa soon clicked into gear and Gabby Agbonlahor had two chances in the space of 60 seconds.

His first effort was hit straight at Tim Krul, while moments later the forward struck a rasping 25-yard drive just over.

There was a let-off for Paul Lambert's team in stoppage time as Cisse miscued from close range after racing on to Remy's cutback.
