FT: Cardiff 0-0 Villa

Half-time report

The first period finished goalless - but there was no shortage of action in a lively contest at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Villa made a bright start with Nathan Baker heading over from Marc Albrighton's cross and Fabian Delph firing just wide from 20 yards after a surging run forward.

But there was a double let-off for Paul Lambert's team as Cardiff hit the woodwork twice in the space of a minute.

Firstly, Wilfried Zaha slipped in Frazier Campbell but Brad Guzan did enough to divert the Bluebirds striker's shot onto the post.

Then Craig Noone's left-foot shot took a deflection off Ashley Westwood and looped over Guzan before striking the bar.

The lively Albrighton crossed from deep to pick out Christian Benteke at the back post but the striker headed straight at David Marshall.

At the other end, Campbell almost found himself through on goal when he beat Guzan to a loose ball but Ron Vlaar raced back to clear from the goalmouth.

Cardiff did put the ball in the net when Noone's corner fell for Zaha who fired past Guzan, but the on-loan Manchester United attacker was correctly flagged offside.
