Paul Lambert admits he's hopeful of having Ron Vlaar back this evening.
Lambert will assess the captain ahead of the clash with Cardiff tonight.
Speaking immediately after the West Ham game, Lambert said he felt Vlaar "had a chance" of making it for the Bluebirds encounter.
Lambert would welcome Vlaar back for two reasons - the balance he brings to the team and his obvious experience in the backline.
He said: "It was touch and go for him against West Ham.
"Whether he's fit for this one, we will have to wait and see.
"I think there might be a chance. I will see how he feels.
"I can't risk him. He has to be comfortable. But if he thinks he can play, we will look at it.
"His absence affects things because of the balance. We have two left footers playing at centre-half which is not ideal.
"The two boys do great every time I ask them to go and do it. If they make mistakes, they are honest mistakes.
"But Ron gives you the balance - that's the big thing.
"Ron being there gives you that experience too. He's been around the block so he knows what it entails.
"He has got better. It took him time to adjust to it. But this season, he's been very good."
