Skipper Vlaar on why he is buoyed by form of Villa's frontmen

Ron Vlaar believes Villa's forwards are close to hitting their best form again following their Anfield exploits.

Christian Benteke scored his second goal in as many games as Villa earned a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday.

Andreas Weimann netted for the first time since the victory over Manchester City in September, while Gabby Agbonlahor was at his blistering best with assists for both of Villa's goals.

Skipper Vlaar reckons seeing Benteke and Weimann back among the goals has given the rest of the team a huge lift.

"It is good that Christian is scoring again," he said.

"It has not been easy for him the last few months but he scored against Arsenal and he scored again on Saturday so it is starting to come to him again now.

"It is really important for the team as well.

"I think Andi scoring was also very important for him and for the team.

"It has not been an easy season for him as well, so I hope that scoring at Anfield gives him a real boost to carry on.

"I think the two crosses from Gabby were brilliant. It's just a pity that he had to go off with an injury."
