Ron Vlaar has been selected in BBC Sport's team of the week.
Vlaar was at his very best, marshalling the troops at Anfield and defending with precision and force.
Garth Crooks was certainly impressed as he selected the Dutch international for special attention.
Vlaar made up the top weekly team, alongside Laurent Koscielny, Bacary Sagna and Danny Rose at the back.
Crooks wrote: "Villa's Ron Vlaar was hugely impressive in defence against Liverpool and could not have done any more to keep Uruguay international Luis Suarez at bay.
"Vlaar has the best tackle success rate (86%) of any of the 13 Villa players to make 10 or more tackles this season (30/35)."
Full team: Butland [Stoke], Sagna [Arsenal], Koscielny [Arsenal], Rose [Tottenham], Cabaye [Newcastle], Toure [Man City], Puncheon [Palace], Cazorla [Arsenal], Eto'o [Chelsea], Adebayor [Tottenham].
Jamie Redknapp praised Villa in his Daily Mail column, picking out Andreas Weimann, Gabby Agbonlahor and Christian Benteke for credit.
He wrote: "Weimann, Agbonlahor and Benteke were magnificent against Liverpool.
"They complemented each other so well and caused problems, particularly in the first half.
"Weimann gave Steven Gerrard a torrid time, working hard and pressing him into errors, Benteke led the line brilliantly and Agbonlahor was so dangerous on the break with his pace."
