Brad Guzan spoke of a "very sharp" Grant Holt after lining up alongside him in training this morning.
Holt was brought in on Tuesday on loan from Wigan until the end of the season.
Guzan was out on the fields of Bodymoor Heath today as a cold chill hit the training ground but he said Holt was in red-hot form as the players geared up for Liverpool on Saturday.
And he said Holt will receive a warm welcome from the lads as he settles into his new surroundings.
He said: "We welcome him warmly.
"We know he's a real fierce competitor. He brings some experience too, which is important.
"Looking at him today in his first training session, he looked really good.
"He looked really sharp. He's comfortable on the ball, strong and a good finisher. They're all the things you want out of a centre-forward.
"We are very happy to have him here. We look forward to a big contribution from him.
"Whenever he takes to the pitch for us, I am sure he will definitely play his part.
"He understands what the Premier League is all about. He's performed at the top level with Norwich and I'm sure he will perform for us too.
"We're excited to have him. There's no doubt in my mind that he can play a big part from here until the end of the season.
"When you think about it, it's a no-brainer to bring him in.
"The gaffer and the coaching staff have worked with him before. They know him as a footballer and a person. They know what he's all about.
"He can score goals but he's a big character too around the place. I am sure that played a part.
"He will be comfortable here. It's about him gelling with the rest of the boys now.
"We're an easy group to get along with. He's settled in quite nicely already. We're pleased to have him on our side as opposed to against us."
