Pheasey Park Farm to represent Villa in prestigious national finals

Pheasey Park Farm have the honour of representing Villa in a prestigious Premier League tournament.

Schools from across the region battled it on at Villa Park in the U11s six-a-side mixed grand final event, held in the Indoor Academy.

The tournament saw the 12 regional winners from throughout the Midlands compete for the honour of bearing the club's name at the national finals.

These take place on Tuesday May 2014 at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.

Pheasey Park Farm - in Great Barr - thoroughly deserved their victory in this tournament as they saw off Coppice Primary School 7-3 in the final.

And academy heroes Daniel Johnson, Graham Burke and Callum Robinson were on hand to award the medals.

Pheasey Park Farm beat Lyndon Green 5-3 in the semi-final while Coppice Primary defeated Ridgeway Middle School 4-2 in their last four encounter.

Matt Cecil, Villa's football Development officer and tournament organiser, said: "Our tournaments this year have been well attended by the region's primary schools.

"In fact, this has been our largest ever, which is testament to the good work being carried out by our football development coaches, who work tirelessly within the community.

"We have seen some dynamic football from the 12 regional winners and we look forward to taking the club's representatives to the Etihad Stadium where they will compete against the other 19 Premier League clubs.

"The experience of playing at a top-flight stadium is something that will stay with the children forever!"

The Premier League schools tournament, which is in its ninth year, aims to increase participation in football and the numbers of teams and players has grown every season.

Dorridge Junior School won the U11 tournament for Villa in 2009 at Old Trafford while Ipsley Junior School won the U11 tournament for Villa in 2008 at the Madejski Stadium.
