West Brom U18 0-1 Villa U18: Strain nets dramatic winner

Thomas Strain's stoppage-time effort gave Villa a victory over West Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The young claret and blues left it late to seal a derby day triumph in this Barclays U18 Premier League clash.

Tony McAndrew's team had been left frustrated by two earlier efforts which were ruled out.

But, just as the contest seemed set to end goalless, substitute Strain netted in the fourth minute of injury time.

Villa are now on a four-match unbeaten run in the league, having beaten Norwich and the Baggies as well as drawing with Chelsea and Southampton.

The young guns are in FA Youth Cup third round action against Plymouth at Villa Park on Tuesday night,

VILLA: Grant, Zazrivec, Wildin, Cowans, Lyden, Lyons-Foster, R Strain, McKirdy, Sellars, Abdo, Calder. Subs: O'Brien, Bannister, T Strain, Lewis.
