Brad Guzan has backed Christian Benteke following his penalty miss against Everton, insisting: "His confidence will not waver."
Benteke - making his first Villa start since September 21 - was thwarted by Toffees keeper Tim Howard in the early stages of Saturday's 2-0 defeat.
But Guzan is certain the missed spotkick will not affect the confidence of Villa's top scorer, who is rediscovering his match sharpness following a hip flexor injury.
"Christian will bounce back, no doubt," said Guzan.
"Christian is a top guy and a top professional. We have all the confidence in the world in Christian.
"On another day that goes in the back of the net and who knows what the score could've been. That's football for you.
"Christian is still the same footballer that he was when he scored all those goals for us.
"His confidence definitely won't waver from this.
"He'll take the next one and put it in the back of the net. This will then all be forgotten."
Guzan believes the Belgian striker will not need consoling because possesses incredible mental toughness.
"It speaks volumes about his character, about the type of professional that he is," added the USA international.
"He's had a lot of press and a lot of media, a buzz around him, good and bad, and he never lets that stuff bother him.
"He gets on with his football, he plays well and he's an important part of what we're about at Aston Villa Football Club.
"There's no-one who needs to go and console him. He'll bounce back just fine."
