Brad Guzan says the 1-0 win at Norwich sums up the character in camp.
Guzan was delighted with the Villa victory in East Anglia.
USA ace Guzan believes the way his playing pals scrapped to keep out the Canaries during a frenetic second half shows how far they have come as a group.
He said: "It was huge. To come here after the Newcastle defeat, it was important for us to get the three points.
"Any time you're up 1-0 with 10, 15 minutes to go, away from home, you know you're going to have to absorb some pressure.
"Credit to the guys in front of me. I thought we did that well. Aside from a couple of saves, I didn't have much else to do. That's credit to the work-rate of the guys in front of me. Hats off to them.
"It shows how far we have come. It shows what this team is about - fight, determination, resilience, character.
"Games in this league are never easy, regardless of who you play.
"To come to a place like Carrow Road where not many teams get points and win and keep a clean sheet, it's great all-around.
"It shows the improvement in the team but it also shows the team spirit and character - what we're about.
"We can play football but you also have to be able to grind out results. We showed that in this one. We had determination, fight, spirit, it was second to nine. That played a big part.
"You could see there were some tired legs out there. They were defending, defending, defending.Even with Karim and Fabian, it's not easy.
"To get the result - and keep the clean sheet - it's huge for all of us. We're delighted. We want to take it and build on it."
Guzan was delighted with the shutout, of course - and the saves that helped it come to fruition.
But the super shot-stopper was more concerned with the maximum haul.
He added: "The most important thing is the three points. Any time you get a clean sheet, that's just an added bonus. We came here to a difficult place and got three points, a huge result for us.
"With the penalty, I thought the award was a bit harsh. I don't know if Ciaran could have got his hand out of the way. It is what it is and we had to deal with it.
"Fortunately for me, I was able to make the save.
"As a goalkeeper, you have a 50-50 chance of going the right way. Fortunately the penalty went left and I went left too."
