Determined Okore: I need to be on my 'A' game to play

Jores Okore is determined to show his 'A' game this season - as he admitted that the competition for places in central defence is huge.

The 21-year-old is a firm admirer of Ron Vlaar, Ciaran Clark and Nathan Baker who are all pushing for a start at the back week after week.

Vlaar has started all three games while Baker was given the nod at Arsenal before forced off with an ankle injury.

Clark stepped in and was magnificent at The Emirates before he too was forced off at Chelsea with a head wound.

Okore then made his debut at Stamford Bridge before starting against Liverpool, performing brilliantly in both encounters.

The Dane says this shows the level of competition at the club and says it can only be good for the manager and the team.

He said: "The competition is going to be tough for all of us.

"All these guys are really good defenders and great players.

"It will bring our level up and our focus too. It will make us sharper, no doubt.

"We will need to be on our A game to have a chance to be in the starting XI.

"It will make us better as a good defensive unit."
