Paul Lambert eulogised over Gabby Agbonlahor's performance after the win at Arsenal, calling him "frightening, outstanding and unplayable."
Lambert believes a fit and firing Agbonlahor is a devastating prospect for Barclays Premier League defences up and down the country.
The display at The Emirates didn't surprise Lambert, though, having seen him excel in the final few months of the last term - and even further back under Martin O'Neill.
Lambert is tipping Agbonlahor for a fine season - and believes he can be on the plane to Brazil with England if he keeps up his form.
He said: "He was unplayable. Everyone knows we have strong players at the top end of the pitch but Gabby's overall performance against Arsenal was frightening. It really was.
"The way he went at them was brilliant. It's as good a solo performance as I have seen for many years.
"Nobody can catch him when he's in that form but he's been like that for the last four months of last season too.
"I remember Gabby when Martin O'Neill was at the football club and he was outstanding. He made his mark in that era.
"I don't know what's happened in the last couple of seasons. It's just a matter of trying to pick him up and get him going.
"He's been outstanding, absolutely fantastic.
"For the second penalty he pressed it and ran a good bit of the field to win it. Even the first one, he'd no right to get that when he knocked it by the defender but he still got ahead of the goalkeeper, which shows you how quick he is. He's been excellent for us.
"He was unfortunate at the beginning of last season because he got an injury in America. He missed a bit of the season.
"But he's been exceptional. When he plays like that it's great for him, great for Aston Villa and probably great for England."
Asked whether Agbonlahor should play for England, he continued: "On that performance, no problem."
On his World Cup chances, Lambert added: "If he plays like that and keeps that form and that way of playing then I don't see why not.
"That was just an absolutely fabulous performance it really was. His speed is there for everyone to see. Once he gets a run at you, nobody will catch him."
