Arsenal 1-3 Villa: Lambert - We won't be getting carried away

Paul Lambert was "over the moon" with the win at Arsenal but insisted he won't be getting carried away by it.

Lambert called the display "fabulous" and the result "outstanding."

But, like all good managers, the moment the final whistle blew he set his sights on the next fixture, which is another difficult clash with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Lambert accepted the final score gave Villa a good start to the campaign but nothing more.

He said: "You certainly don't get carried away one game in. It's very early.

"You still expect Arsenal to be up there challenging for things.

"But it was a dream start.

"You can't say it's set the tone for the season - that's too much. We've got miles and miles to go.

"What it has done is it's given us a great start to the season. That's basically all it's done, though.

"But it was a fabulous result. The performance was outstanding and everything about it was fantastic.

"We've got a really tough first three games and I think everybody would probably have thought we'd get no points out of them, if you look at the way the fixtures have come out. Coming here on the opening day was a mammoth task for us.

"But the performance was outstanding."

Lambert was happy with the belief and commitment of his team - two traits he believes will be vitally important this season.

He added: "We've got a lot of new players at the football club and lads that have been here only for a year and are growing into it hopefully.

"We'll have ups and downs, probably like a lot of teams. But I know I've got a top group of players.

"They know the league is really hard and they know they need to start well.

"If you're not 100% you end up losing games.

"I am proud of them.

"We are a young side - a really young side - but we have an enthusiasm and hunger for the game to do well. The crowd are outstanding for us too.

"We have a long way to go. But at this moment, I am over the moon."
