Agbonlahor: We owe the fans a performance at Stamford Bridge

Gabby Agbonlahor is expecting one of the toughest tests of the season when Villa travel to Chelsea on Wednesday - but he says the team are determined to give it everything they've got.

Villa went down 8-0 to the Blues in the corresponding fixture last term.

Villa's star striker admits that emphatic defeat will be "on our minds" because of the hurt it caused faithful fans who travelled to the capital that night.

He says the players will give everything to rectify it this midweek when they face Jose Mourinho's title-contenders.

The minimum requirement he says is a good performance.

He said: "It will be tough. We have some bad memories from there.

"But we will go with tactics and a game-plan and if we stick to it, anything can happen.

"We need to work hard for each other. It will be hard. We need to forget about Arsenal and go again against Chelsea.

"The defeat last season will be on our minds. We want to put that right for the fans who went to that game. We will be hoping to do that.

"It will be difficult. We won't get ahead of ourselves winning against Arsenal. We want to go there to Stamford Bridge now and put in a good performance.

"These are the big games, these are the matches you're excited for and want to play in.

"We had a squad of players who were excited to play at The Emirates and those who went out there did the club proud."

Agbonlahor admits he's relishing 2013-14 because of the amazing bond in the camp between players, staff and fans.

That sincerity and honesty was summed up when he was told of Paul Lambert's comments post-match at Arsenal with the manager insisting: "Agbonlahor was frightening and unplayable."

Taking on board the positive views of the boss, Agbonlahor was keen to praise his playing pals for earning the victory.

He continued: "It was a real team effort. Look at Guzan. He made some great saves.

"We were solid at the back. We pressed them hard in midfield. They had no time which they are probably not used to.

"We are together as a group. That's a big thing for us. It just goes to show if you give 100% as a team and do a job for each other you can win games."
