Nicklas Helenius has vowed to learn from Christian Benteke's stunning impact at Villa - after hailing the Belgian striker's return.
Helenius was thrilled to see fellow forward Benteke agree a one-year contract extension last week.
He believes last season's top scorer has become the standard-bearer for new players making their mark in claret and blue.
Benteke, who returned to action in Tuesday night's friendly at Luton, scored 22 goals in all competitions during his debut campaign for Villa.
"I always hoped that Christian would stay because I can learn from him and he is a very good player," said Helenius.
"He is one that you look at and try to do the same as he did, so I am very happy that Christian is staying.
"He was a new player last year and nobody had heard his name before but he came over and he must have done something right to get the success he had.
"That is something you can watch and try to learn from."
Helenius hopes to get the opportunity to play alongside the 6ft 3in hitman but knows competition for places will be fierce.
He is relishing the battle for positions in Paul Lambert's front line.
"Hopefully I will get to play with Christian if I train well and show what I can do when I get my chance," added the Dane.
"But we have some other good strikers - Gabby, Andi and Jordan too.
"You will always be better when you have to fight for your place in the starting XI. That is good."
