Ron Vlaar says the players can't wait for the new season to start.
Vlaar knows it was a tough campaign last time out but insists the optimism gained from a tremendous finish is still with the squad in a big way.
Skipper Vlaar believes there's no harm in harnessing the positivity from that remarkable run as the team look to progress next term.
He said: "I look back with pleasure to the last months. The results improved a lot.
"We won a lot of games. We want to go on with that.
"The team improved and the way we played together got better. You could see that with the results. We want that to continue next season.
"We are excited. We are looking forward. The fans got some great moments in the last few months and they want to see more of that. We want to give them more of that.
"We have optimism and positivity. We have to believe in ourselves. We did a lot more of that at the end of last season. We have to do that again in this season. We have to see what's possible.
"We have some new players. They are really good players. I hope we are going to have a lot of fun with them. We look forward to a better season. That's where we start now."
Vlaar has been in Germany with the rest of the squad as they look to build up their fitness in time for the new campaign.
He's been impressed with what he's seen from everyone in camp.
He added: "It's been very useful. It was good to be together.
"We were in quiet surroundings. We had good days to practice and train and play games. It been very good.
"We have done well. The gaffer is satisfied with the way we have trained.
"There's a really healthy atmosphere in the group. We have some new lads. We are getting to know each other. It's really good."
