Villa's development squad began their pre-season campaign with an accomplished performance against non-league side Enfield.
The claret and blues were in total control throughout this friendly clash and ran out winners thanks to second-half goals from Daniel Johnson and Jerell Sellars.
Gordon Cowans - was who joined in the dugout for the first time by new assistant development coach Stiliyan Petrov - gave his whole 18-man squad a run-out.
It meant the likes of NextGen Series heroes Jordan Lyden, Janoi Donacien, Jack Grealish, Michael Drennan and Callum Robinson got their first match action of the season.
Villa broke the deadlock on 72 minutes through U21 skipper Johnson.
Second-half substitute Sellars rubber-stamped the victory with a strike five minutes from time.
"Enfield were a lot bigger and physically stronger than us but we dominated the game," said coach Cowans.
"We should have been about four up by half time and we deserved to win.
"It was a good workout for the lads and they did well considering it was a very good side and Enfield started their pre-season 10 days before us."
Villa's youngsters are back in action at Boldmere St Michaels on Wednesday [ko 7.30pm].
