Heskey: Weimann has talent and tenacity to succeed

Emile Heskey believes Andi Weimann has all the attributes to be a huge success at Villa for years to come.

Heskey trained with Weimann when he was a young academy graduate coming through the ranks.

And the powerful former England forward spotted real talent in the Austrian ace.

Heskey believes Weimann's mix of tenacity and talent will see him go far.

He said: "Andi's work ethic is unbelievable. The lad is non-stop running. That's very noticeable. You see it in every second of every game.

"But out of all the lads there when I was there, of the young lads he was the best finisher. He found the net time and time and time again. He was phenomenal.

"He was natural but he also worked hard on the training pitch too. It was 50-50 talent and training.

"If you add those two qualities together, you've got success.

"He always wants to learn too. He always listens to the coaches and has a real desire to get better and better with his game. That's fantastic to see."

Heskey believes Villa fans will be thrilled to see someone of Weimann's background succeed, coming as he does from the club's flourishing academy system.

He added: "Andi came from Austria but he's an adopted Brummie, no doubt.

"He's a big fan favourite at the club. The supporters love him. They have really taken to him.

"The way he plays the game - working hard and scoring goals obviously helps. But more than that, Villa fans like seeing one of their own come through the ranks.

"It's a nice story for the fans to follow. They like that Villa are giving chances to young players in the ranks."
