Leandro Bacuna is relishing the chance to link up with fellow Dutchman Ron Vlaar - after hailing the Villa skipper as a "hero" in their homeland.
Bacuna, who arrived last week from Groningen, has faced ex-Feyenoord defender Vlaar on several occasions in the Eredivisie.
Now he is looking forward to starring alongside his compatriot for Villa in the Barclays Premier League.
And Bacuna believes the man known as Concrete Ron will be key in helping him settle into life at his new club.
"In the Eredivisie I have played against him and he made a very good step to come to Aston Villa and now I am following in his footsteps," said Bacuna.
"He is a really nice guy and has the attitude to be a captain and I think we can hang around together a lot.
"It is really nice for me to have someone who can help me settle in.
"He is a hero in Holland. He is doing well and he is a good defender."
Bacuna can't wait to prove himself in the English top flight.
The 21-year-old midfielder says he is entering an exciting "new beginning" in claret and blue.
"It is another level," said the Holland U21 international.
"The Premier League for me is the top level and everyone wants to play in the Premier League.
"You have to improve yourself and it is going to be a difficult task but we have to fight and show ourselves.
"It is a nice time to come to the Premier League and show yourself.
"It is a new team and you are meeting a lot of players.
"It is good for yourself and good for everybody. It is a new beginning.
"I'm going to do my best. I'm going to try and make a lot of goals and be a fan favourite."
