Internationals: Weimann, Benteke, Bannan and Hutton all in action

Hotshot Andi Weimann played the second half for Austria as they defeated Sweden 2-1 in Vienna.

David Alba and Marc Janko scored first half goals before Janko was replaced by Weimann for the final 45 minutes.

Sweden did manage a consolation but it was too little, too late as Johan Elmander struck.

Austria are second in Europe Group C with eight points from five games. Germany are top with 16 points from six games.

Powerhouse striker Christian Benteke played for 90 minutes as Belgium defeated Serbia 2-1 in Brussels.

Kevin de Bruyne and Maroune Fellaini scored the goals in the Europe Group A clash.

Aleksandar Kolorov scored the consolation for the visitors.

Barry Bannan and Alan Hutton both started as Scotland recorded a terrific 1-0 victory away at Croatia in another Europe Group A match.

Robert Snodgrass scored the only goal of the game in Zabreg as Bannan played just over an hour - replaced by Steven Naismith - and Hutton played 90 minutes.

Belgium are top of Europe Group A with 19 points from seven games while Scotland are fifth with five points from seven games.

In the Europe section of World Cup qualifying, the top team in each group progresses to the finals.

The second placed side from each group will contest round two of qualifying.

The teams will be paired into four home-and-away ties. The matches will likely be played between November 15 and 19, 2013 and the winners also make it through to Brazil.

Brad Guzan was an unused sub - but delighted spectator - as USA saw off Jamaica 2-1 courtesy of a late, late goal in Kingston.

Jozy Altidore opened the scoring, only for Jermaine Beckford to bag an equaliser in the final minute.

But the States weren't to be outdone as Brad Evans scored in the second minute of stoppage time to ensure the win.

That puts USA joint top of the North, Central America and Caribbean Group, with four points from seven games, alongside Costa Rica.

USA are currently competing in the region's traditional 'hexagonal' stage.

Six teams meet in a home-and-away format between February 6 and October 15, 2013 with the top three sides qualifying directly for the tournament in Brazil.

Earlier this week, Brett Holman played impressively for 72 minutes as Australia drew 1-1 in Japan.

The Aussies looked odds-on for the win when Tommy Oar scored in the 81st minute but Japan hit back in the first minute of stoppage time through Keisuke Honda to level matters.

Japan are top of Asia Group B with 14 points from seven games with Australia in third with seven points from six matches.

The top team will qualify for Brazil in 2014 while the second team will progress to further qualifying.
