Agbonlahor Week: Heskey - Gabby can join me in 100 Club

Emile Heskey has backed Gabby Agbonlahor to join him in the Barclays Premier League 100 Club.

There are just 23 scoring greats in that illustrious goal group, including Alan Shearer, Andy Cole, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard, Robbie Keane, Dion Dublin and Michael Owen.

Heskey believes Agbonlahor has the ability to make it into the top list.

Agbonlahor currently stands on 63 - the club's all-time scoring record after surpassing Dwight Yorke - during a seven-year spell of first-team football.

Heskey is confident Agbonlahor will blast into the century class in the coming years.

He said: "Gabby is the club's top scorer which is terrific.

"I think Gabby will go on to score many more. He's been great for Villa and Villa has been great for him.

"He can get into that 100 Club. There's not many in it.

"He is only 26 and he has the ability to get into it, definitely.

"He plays different positions, like I did, but he certainly has the eye for goal to get into that illustrious group."

Heskey also thinks, knowing Agbonlahor from their time together, that the star striker will have been a guiding light in the dressing room during the final few months of the season.

He continued: "He's a good lad. He's the joker of the pack in the dressing room.

"He's the one who keeps everyone's spirits up when things aren't going well. He keeps everyone smiling. He picks everyone up."

But above all, Heskey is a big fan of Agbonlahor's quality.

He added: "His ability is superb - his ability to score, his ability to run off the ball, his ability to chase everything down and his ability to create chances for others and for himself too.

"He's so quick on the pitch too - lightning fast."
