Villa Ladies v Coventry Ladies: Hunt relishing Villa Park chance

Joe Hunt says "it will be an honour" for Villa Ladies to grace the Villa Park pitch when they face Coventry City tonight.

Manager Hunt insists his squad are relishing the opportunity to play at the club's famous home in this evening's league encounter.

It will be yet another high point for the Villa Ladies side, who were at Villa Park for Saturday's top-flight game against Chelsea to receive the League Cup trophy.

The claret and blues lost for the first time in six games against Sunderland at the weekend but a win tonight would see them leapfrog Manchester City into fourth place.

"The ladies are so excited for this game," said Hunt.

"They've put a lot of hard work into this season so deserve a chance to play on one of the best pitches in the country if not the world.

"Jonathan Calderwood and his staff produce magnificent pitches year after year so it will be an honour for us to grace the pitch.

"We really appreciate the support we get from the club.

"Paul Faulkner [chief executive] and Russell Jones [head of marketing and communications] have been instrumental in the success of the ladies team over the past few years."

Villa and tonight's opponents Coventry have been close rivals in all competitions this term.

The two sides have met four times, earning two wins each.

"We've lost in the League Cup group stages but then got drawn against them away in the last 16 of the same competition," said Hunt.

"We won 3-0 and we're impressive in that match. We also beat them 3-1 away in the league earlier in the season.

"Our other defeat was in the semi-final of the County Cup - I'll never know how we lost that game but full credit to Chris Holloway's team.

"They knocked us out and beat Sporting Club Albion in the final.

"Chris is a good guy and has done a splendid job since taking over from Paul Cudby."

Villa have no injury concerns going in to the game.

Meanwhile, the U17 Girls team finished off their league campaign with a stunning 13-0 win over Cambridge at Villa Park.

England U17 international Sarah Maying scored four times, including three spectacular long-range efforts.

Tonight's game at Villa Park kicks off at 7pm, with free entry for supporters.

Villa Ladies squad: Walsh, Mannion, Lowe, Petrovic, Richards, Moran, Merritt, McCue, Stringer, Cusack, Jones, Fergusson, Follis, Clarke, Merrick, Davies.
