Ron Vlaar insists confidence remains very much intact.
Despite the late loss to Chelsea, Vlaar says the manner of the performance offers much hope going into the final day of the campaign at Wigan.
Vlaar believes the fans weren't happy with the defeat - just like the players - but they were impressed with the performance, with Villa playing excellent football throughout the ninety minutes.
He said: "We didn't really get what we deserved. I think we at least deserved a point. We were a bit unlucky.
"But the way we performed was really good.
"We worked really hard and there was a good energy and spirit about the team.
"We have no points at the end, which is too bad for us. But we keep going.
"The support from the fans was great. I have said it before, we have to give the signals out on the pitch and to have 42,000 in the stands was great.
"They were not happy with the loss but I think they were happy with the way we played in this one and over the past few weeks.
"We have one more game left. We are not safe. We have to do it next week.
"But we are in form. We are playing with confidence. And we are in a much better position than we were a few weeks ago.
"I think we have learned a lot over the past few months We have played well in a lot of games this season and haven't always got the results we have deserved.
"But over the past few weeks we have shown more urgency and we seem to have played better under pressure.
"Now we have to find out what happens in the final game."
