Everyone at Villa came together to salute retiring skipper Stiliyan Petrov at the final home game of the season against Chelsea.

It was an emotionally-charged afternoon at Villa Park as the claret and blue faithful paid tribute to the midfielder, who announced his retirement this week following his battle with leukaemia.

There was a stunning 19th-minute applause during the game, with some supporters holding up specially-made '#19' posters which were featured in the matchday programme.

Villa striker Christian Benteke also paid his own personal tribute by unveiling a 'Petrov 19' t-shirt after opening the scoring.

Then at the final whistle, Petrov got the opportunity to lead his team out one last time for a lap of appreciation.

The home faithful stayed behind to give the retiring club captain a rousing send-off, with the marauding former midfielder draping himself in a claret flag which was handed to him from the Holte End.

Club photographer Neville Williams was on hand to snap some cracking images from the emotional afternoon.
