Paul Lambert will give Matt Lowton a late fitness test today as he looks to finalise his team for the Chelsea game on Saturday.
Lowton was forced off against Norwich just before the half-hour mark with a thigh strain.
And the right-back is still a doubt for the clash with the Blues this weekend.
But Lambert has total confidence in Eric Lichaj, if Lowton misses out.
In other team news, Karim El Ahmadi and Ciaran Clark are both still injured for Saturday.
El Ahmadi [thigh] and Clark [foot] were absent against both Sunderland and Norwich.
And Lambert will have to do without them against for the encounter with Rafa Benitez's men.
Lambert said: "We have to see how Matty is today.
"Eric came in and did excellently. He did great.
"He hasn't played in a right few months because of the form of Matty. Matty has been exceptional.
"But Eric came in and did really well.
"Ciaran has not changed. He is still struggling. His shoulder is fine. It's his foot. He got kicked on it in training.
"Karim is still injured.
"Other than that, everything is okay from last week."
In good news, Lambert revealed that Richard Dunne is back out on the fields again, training with the development squad as he looks to build up his base of fitness.
Dunne has not played competitively since the European Championships in the summer.
He said: "Richard is doing fine. He is feeling good.
"He has been training with the younger lads. He is keeping himself going.
"He is not fit enough to play. He hasn't played in nearly a year.
"He has to be comfortable with himself. But he is doing good. Touch wood, he will be okay."
