Paul Lambert demands a good work ethic from his men as they train before every game.
But he's not averse to joking at the right times.
Matt Lowton has been the subject of much merriment in camp with his fellow players.
His team-mates have been winding him up on the fields of Bodymoor Heath because of his inability to replicate the stunner he slammed home at Stoke.
The task to tease him was followed up by the fervent fan chants of 'shoot' every time he got the ball to feet.
Now when he's off target from distance, the lads let the banter fly his way.
The fact the starlets have that kind of relationship shows first-hand the camaraderie in camp - and that will be vital as they look to stick together in the five big battles to come.
Lambert said: "The 'shoot' was always going to happen. I knew that would come from his first touch because of his goal the other week.
"But he's been ever so consistent since he's been here which is brilliant.
"Sheff Utd gave him a good upbringing and he's been excellent for us. That's the biggest compliment I can give him.
"He's comfortable at the level. When you buy someone like that, they think 'who's that?' They will have done the same with Christian and Ashley. Look at how well they have turned out. Matty is in the same boat.
"The lads have had a little wind-up with him. In training when he didn't do what he did against Stoke, the usual jokes came out."
Neville Williams was given exclusive access to training on the eve of the Man Utd encounter.
He snapped away as the players were put through their paces at Bodymoor Heath.
