Charles N'Zogbia and Matt Lowton caught the eye as they were selected in the BBC Sport team of the week following the 1-1 draw with Fulham.
N'Zogbia came back into the side for the home clash and showed frisky ambition going-forward as well as a sound defensive sensibility.
He bagged the goal, a beautiful curled effort which gave in-form Mark Schwarzer absolutely no chance.
Lowton was a rock at the back and Paul Lambert said post-match that the right-back is improving with each passing week.
It was clearly echoed by Garth Crooks, who selected the young defender in his Star XI after the weekend fixtures.
On N'Zogbia, he said: "Charles has not been the first name on Paul Lambert's teamsheet this season but in the last few games he has certainly started to look like the player Villa invested in.
"His goal was a beauty - collected with the right and beautifully dispatched with the left.
"With N'Zogbia, Christian Benteke, Andreas Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor, Villa will stay up.
"Interestingly, Charles has two goals and four assists in the Premier League this season, the same record as last season but in ten games fewer."
On Lowton, he added: "I doubt whether Matt will ever score a goal like last week but he has found great confidence from his exploits at Stoke and it showed against Fulham.
"He was full of running and innovation throughout. He has also played every minute of every league game."
