Ciaran Clark is hoping to be available for Villa's clash against Fulham after returning to training following a shoulder injury.
Clark has been out of action since coming off injured in the Republic of Ireland's 2-2 draw against Austria a fortnight ago.
The defender was forced to sit out the defeat to Liverpool and the victory over Stoke City.
But he returned to training at Bodymoor Heath on Thursday.
Manager Paul Lambert and the Villa medical staff will assess the 23-year-old's fitness ahead of the Villa Park encounter with Fulham.
"He trained on Thursday morning, his first day back since the national game," said the Villa boss.
"We will see how he is today and tomorrow.
"You are never quite sure how long it is going to take but I think he has come back quicker than we thought."
