Rodgers: Villa will move forward under top boss Lambert

Paul Lambert has been backed to bring success to Villa.

That's the verdict of Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Instead of glorying in the Reds 2-1 victory over Villa, Rodgers offered his support to Lambert.

Rodgers called Lambert a "top, top manager" who needs time to shape his vision for the future of the claret and blues.

He knows all too well the qualities of Lambert after having titanic tussles with him when the pair were in charge of Swansea and Norwich respectively.

Despite Villa being 18th in the table, Rodgers is confident Lambert will get it right.

He said: "Paul is a top, top manager. You only have to see what he did with Norwich.

"Paul Lambert is a top, top manager. The longer he is here, the better Aston Villa will become.

"Once he is able to bring his type and his profile in - the players he wants to improve - they will move forward."
