Internationals: Happy Benteke while honours even for Clark/Weimann

Christian Benteke played the full ninety minutes as Belgium defeated Macedonia 1-0 in Brussels.

Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark to set up the win for the hosts.

Belgium are top of Group A with sixteen points from six games, which is the same as Croatia who defeated Wales 2-1 in Cardiff.

Alan Hutton played the full ninety minutes while Barry Bannan stayed on the bench as Scotland went down 2-0 to Serbia in Novi Sad.

Both goals were scored by Filip Duricic.

Scotland are bottom of Group A with two points from six matches.

Ciaran Clark played 72 minutes and Andreas Weimann played 21 minutes as their respective nations Republic of Ireland and Austria played out a 2-2 draw.

Jonathan Walters scored the goals for the hosts in Dublin while the visitors goals were scored by Martin Harnik and David Alaba.

Austria are second in Group C with eight points from five games while Republic of Ireland are fourth, also with eight points from five games.

Austria have a superior goal difference. Germany are top with sixteen points from six matches.

Ron Vlaar remained on the bench as Holland beat Romania 4-0 in Amsterdam.

Goals from Rafael Van Der Vaart, Robin van Persie [2] and Jeremain Lens ensured a comfortable victory for the hosts in the Group D encounter.

The match was refereed by Barclays Premier League official Mark Clattenberg.

Holland are top with a maximum eighteen points from six games.

In the Europe section of World Cup qualifying, the top team in each group progresses to the finals.

The second placed side from each group will contest round two of qualifying. The teams will be paired into four home-and-away ties.

The matches will likely be played between November 15 and 19, 2013 and the winners also make it through to Brazil.

Brett Holman scored a vital equaliser for Australia as they drew 2-2 with Oman.

Australia were forced to fight back strongly after going two-goals down in the clash at Sydney's Olympic Stadium.

The visitors stunned the 34,603 crowd by taking a 1-0 lead through Abdul Aziz Mubarak in the sixth minute and doubling it courtesy of a Mile Jedinak own-goal four minutes after the break.

Forward Tim Cahill cut the deficit with a trademark header on 51 minutes, however, and Villa midfielder Holman equalised with a 25-yard strike five minutes from time.

The draw means Australia and Oman are locked together on six points, seven behind runaway Group B leaders Japan, one ahead of Iraq and two clear of Jordan.

The top team will qualify for Brazil in 2014 while the second team will progress to further qualifying.

Brad Guzan helped USA to a solid 0-0 draw with Mexico in Mexico City.

USA are third in 'North, Central America and Caribbean' with four points from three games. Honduras are top with five points from three games.

USA are currently competing in the region's traditional 'hexagonal' stage.

Six teams meet in a home-and-away format between February 6 and October 15, 2013 with the top three sides qualifying directly for the tournament in Brazil.
