Brad Guzan has sounded a note of caution ahead of the eight-game season finale, insisting: "We're still a long way from the finishing line."
Guzan was instrumental in helping Villa earn a vital 3-2 win over QPR, making several world-class saves in the first-half.
USA ace Guzan knows the win was "massive" for the team as they look to emerge from the lower reaches of the table.
But, despite the delight in and around the club, he warned that the job is far from finished.
He said: "There are a lot of points to play for.
"The win gives us confidence and that extra belief.
"But we continue to press forward but we have to pick up points along the way and stick together.
"We know there is a lot of football to be played.
"It's great to get three points but we know we're a long way from the finishing line.
"Every game is massive for us now. We have to continue to fight each week. We know the quality we have in the dressing room.
"You don't get too high when you things are going well and you don't get too low when things aren't going well. You just continue to fight and now we focus on Liverpool."
It was a sentiment echoed post-match by captain Ron Vlaar.
Vlaar, like Guzan, believes there's a long road ahead for Villa in the fight for survival but he admits the QPR victory has done the team the world of good.
He added: "It's a massive win, that's obvious.
"But we are not there yet. We look forward to the next game now. We go from one game to the next.
"We know we still need a lot of points. But this gives us a boost, beating QPR on the back of Reading. It gives us a lot of confidence."
