Paul Lambert has spoken of his admiration for Brad Guzan who he says has been "absolutely colossal" since taking on the No.1 mantle.
Guzan was in fine form once again in the 2-1 win at Reading, making several fine saves and commanding his box with the stealth of a gazelle and the bravery of a lion.
Lambert said he "wouldn't swap Guzan for anyone" as he paid tribute to the current frontrunner in the Player of the Year award voting.
But he insisted that Guzan's fine form between the sticks has been aided by the competition with evergreen Shay Given.
He said: "I think Brad has been exceptional. He's been absolutely colossal for the football club.
"I wouldn't swap him. He's a really good guy as well, which is important. He's always bubbly and is a good character.
"Shay has been terrific for us in the cups. The two of them are top-class goalkeepers.
"Brad has been fantastic for us. But you've also got to give Shay a lot of credit for what he's done and the way he's kept him in the No.1 spot really.
"Shay is a world-class goalkeeper and I think if you make the call [to pick Guzan in favour of Given] then Brad's got to go in there and do it.
"I think his first game was against Newcastle and he was excellent up there.
"I think some of it is down to the fact Shay is pushing him as well.
"But Brad has made some massive saves for us in big moments and he's been a credit to the club.
"To have a good goalkeeper is vital and fortunately this club has got two top goalkeepers."
