Match report: Villa Ladies 3-0 Preston North End Ladies

Villa Ladies made it through to the FA Cup fifth round with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Preston Ladies.

Natalie Gibson [pictured], Chloe Jones and Dani Petrovic all struck before the half-hour mark to seal victory for the team in claret and blue.

New signing Jones, in particular, was exceptional throughout, showing her range of passing and ability to get stuck in too.

Villa Ladies went ahead when Emma Follis lobbed the ball to striker Gibson, who took one touch before finishing smartly.

Relentless pressure led to number two for Villa Ladies. Erin Vaughan's cross was met by Jones, who powered in a header off the post.

The game was over almost as soon as it had begun, with skipper Petrovic thundering home another header from another Vaughan centre.

Villa Ladies peppered the Preston Ladies goal for the remainder of the game but couldn't add to their solid advantage.

Laura Cooper struck the crossbar while Petrovic had another shot cannon off the post.

Boss Joe Hunt said: "This was a superb performance from the team.

"I freshened things up after the hard game at Coventry City. Chloe came in for Katy and Natalie for Carly.

"Chloe was outstanding. She is a class act. Her vision and range of pass is what we've been missing.

"She links well with Abbeyleigh and gets her timings right when releasing the wingers.

"But she is not afraid of doing the ugly side of the game, tracking back, making crucial tackles and applying high pressure on her opponents. She scored a good goal as well!

"Erin's delivery was world-class. It would've troubled any team in the land! I think Erin is now showing the sort of form she is capable of.

"For a right-back she dominates the wingers and then pushes the opposite full-back deeper and deeper. She has to be on top form though as Laura is also showing what a fine player she is.

"It's nice to have competition for places, not just in defence but all around the pitch. As a group we are looking very strong.

"There is a great atmosphere in the camp too. Those who don't start are very supportive of those on the pitch. It's nice to see."

VILLA LADIES: Courtney, Vaughan, Lowe, Merritt (Moran 70), Petrovic, Richards, Follis, Stringer (Mannion 65), Gibson, Jones, Cusack (Cooper 46). Subs not used Davies, Crackle.
