Yacouba Sylla insists he will bring added bite to central midfield for Villa.
Sylla can't wait to get started in claret and blue and his debut could come at Everton.
The 22-year-old promises he will fight hard for the cause and provide protection to the back four.
He said: "I am a defensive midfielder, a ball winner. I want to help the team to defend well. That's my aim.
"I admire Blaise Matuidi, a defensive midfielder for the French national team. He is very aggressive and that is very much part of my game too.
"I've got my own style but I admire players like that, who play that sort of game.
"I've seen that things have been difficult here recently. But I want to fight for the club and help the team."
One of the key aspects of joining Villa was the "big history" of the club - but also the "spectacular" Barclays Premier League.
He added: "There's a huge contrast between England and France. The stadiums are much bigger with far more people here.
"But, overall, English football is spectacular and that's why everyone wants to play here.
"The challenge of joining such a big club as Villa excites me.
"I have had a great welcome from everybody. I've now met everyone.
"The facilities are magnificent and I am certainly aware of the status and history of Villa in England. I can't wait to get started."
