Vlaar: We can't afford a hangover from cup exit

Ron Vlaar insists Villa cannot afford a hangover from their cup exit as they look to finish the season well.

Villa travel to Millwall on Friday in the FA Cup fourth round before a vital home Barclays Premier League game with Newcastle on Tuesday.

Vlaar appreciates the importance of this duo of matches, especially the clash with the Magpies as Villa aim to climb the table.

He says he has "never felt this sort of disappointment in my body before" but insists now is the time to look forward, not back.

He said: "Friday is the next game. We are not in the position to have a hangover from this game.

"We have to go on. We have to look forward, however hard it is.

"Staying up is the most important thing for us. We have to look forward, keep our head and get together.

"We all know the situation we are in so we have to fight back.

"We have no option, no choice. We are fighting really hard in the league. The next game is coming on Friday.

"We have to get ourselves together and start over again.

"We have to look forward. Tomorrow is another day. We are professionals. We have to go again."

Vlaar believes the fans will stay behind the team, despite the devastation at the cup exit to Bradford City.

He added: "I hope they stay behind us like they have already done in every game this season. This is going to be hard for them and I understand that. They are also upset.

"They also know what situation we are in and we need their support and I really trust and believe that they will give it.

"We now have to get together and fight back and give another good signal back to the fans."

Make sure you pick up tickets for Newcastle.
