Former Villa boss John Gregory raised the roof at a Lions Club evening with a touching musical tribute to skipper Stiliyan Petrov.
Gregory dedicated his performance of the Bruce Springsteen song 'No Surrender' to Petrov when he appeared at Sutton Coldfield Town Football Club on Friday.
The 58-year-old brought his two passions - Villa and Springsteen - together as he took centre stage in front of hundreds of claret and blue fanatics.
As well as recalling his spells at Villa as a player, first team coach and then manager, Gregory picked up his guitar to perform some classics by his musical hero.
Having already rattled through the New Jersey singer-songwriter's tracks 'Red Headed Woman', 'Youngstown' and 'Atlantic City', the ex-manager saved the best until last with a moving version of 'No Surrender' from the hit Springsteen album 'Born In The USA'.
Gregory dedicated the song to club captain Petrov, who was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in March 2012.
He told the audience: "We are missing our boy and I hope that he'll be back amongst us one day.
"I don't know when and it is not easy but we've certainly missed him.
"But I'd like to finish off with this song. I think it says everything about him - it is in the title."
