Paul Lambert hopes Gabby Agbonlahor, Darren Bent and Charles N'Zogbia could play a part in the FA Cup third round tie against Ipswich.
Agbonlahor and Bent resumed training this week after missing the Christmas period with thigh and hamstring injuries respectively.
N'Zogbia, who has been out of action for three weeks with a knee problem, was hoping to join in with the rest of the squad in today's session at Bodymoor Heath.
Having the trio back would be a big boost for Lambert with a cup double-header against Ipswich and Bradford on the horizon.
However, Ashley Westwood is definitely out after injuring his ankle ligaments against Swansea, while Ron Vlaar and Richard Dunne remain on the casualty list.
Karim El Ahmadi linked up with Morocco on Sunday ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in South Africa.
"Ashley Westwood I think is going to struggle," said Lambert.
"The lads I've mentioned just there will hopefully come through this morning and will see how they are feeling.
"Hopefully we will get one or two back and that will help us. If we can try to change it then it's something I'll try to do.
"Charles N'Zogbia is doing ok and hopefully will be able to train today. Ron Vlaar is still struggling.
"Richard is doing really fine. There are no ill effects from the operation but he's still way short from training."
